Endemic to eastern Australia, Eusynthemis nigra (Black Tigertail) ranges over much of Queensland on the east coast, excluding Cape York, and down to north-eastern New South Wales. It is also recorded in inland southern inland Queensland. The identification points made in Theischinger/Hawking are confusing to say the least so I’m skipping that. IMO it is a very handsome dragonfly.
We met this species in Mapleton Falls NP, Finch Hatton Gorge, Dalrymple Heights and in the Northbrook Gorges. I snagged several again on my FNQ 2022 trip. There are pictures included from all places.
